If Nothing Else, They Get Points for Perseverance

The amateur and professional cryptozoologists are creaming their jeans over this photo from Google Earth.

I’ve seen pictures of the coelacanth. I’ve seen pictures of giant squids. I realize that there are probably animals and plants that still wait to be discovered by modern science, but a plesiosaur living in the cold deep waters of a Scottish Loch? Sounds like too much single malt to me. Having looked at more than a few images of our local waterways on Google Earth, I immediately recognized the shape as a motorboat. Unless the Loch Ness Monster looks a lot like one of those giant squids — bullet shaped body with tentacles — then I just don’t see it.

Seriously, though. Keep up the good work, guys. It’s only been seventy-six years since the first alleged sighting. Nobody expects you to find, photograph or film a massive carnivore in a lake in less than a hundred years.

That would be crazy.

Many miles away
There’s a shadow on the door
Of a cottage on the shore
Of a dark Scottish lake
Many miles away

Synchronicity II by The Police (music & lyrics by Gordon Sumner)

UPDATE: Even the awesome size and power of the Loch Ness Monster can’t compare to the creepiness of the Mongolian Deathworm which “kills people by spitting concentrated acid or shooting lightning from its rectum over long distances.”

Now that’s a monster! – BBF

UPDATE the TWICED: Now a group of teenagers has killed “Gollum” coming out of a cave in Panama.

If you paid me to, I couldn’t make up stuff like this. – BBF
